Recommended Sway Bar for a 2022 Ram 1500 w/ Air Bags

Updated 03/30/2026 | Published 03/29/2026

Question:

2022 Ram 1500 5.7E-torque Hemi, Crew Cab and 6-4 Bed. Installed aftermarket Air-Lift Bag system Loadlifter 5000 on rear of truck only and run about 15 Pounds of pre-loading pressure Use Reese WD Hitch to pull 6,900 DW Travel Trailer without issue, except sway with passing vehicles. Looking to beef up Sway Bar with part HE56TR. Any issues you can think of with using both aftermarket Air Bags and this Sway Bar? Thanks. BTW - you have grown a bit since I used you back around 2007-2008 for a front hitch for my 2007 Ram 2500 diesel. Northeast turned the frame rails on that towing dream into swiss cheese.

Welcome back Robert! I see no issues performance or compatibility wise installing the Hellwig Adjustable Rear Anti-Sway Bar item # HE56TR with the LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs like item # AL57375 on your 2022 Ram 1500.

The Hellwig item # HE56TR is going to replace your factory sway bar and really help tighten up your rear suspension. It's going to give you additional stability and help your sway issue when you're getting passed. The Air Bags item # AL57375 are going to continue performing the same way with the upgraded sway bar.

Please note that the Hellwig item # HE56TR does not fit the TRX models. If you do not currently have a factory sway bar with end links, you'll also need the Hellwig Universal Straight End Link Kit item # HE74SR.

I loved that generation of Ram trucks! That's the year they split the models with the new engine. We had an 8' bed one we used as a farm truck. Great for towing but bounced horribly without weight on the rear end. The rust belt is so unfriendly.

What kind of travel trailer do you have?

My truck does have factory sway bar. I didn’t measure it but it looked pretty thick. I have a 2007 Puma DBSS that we have had for almost 20 years. Just started planning the removal of 2 bunks to add a desk/ work station. Kids are too old to go with us now so time to make it work more for us. It’s too nice for us to just trade in.

@RobertB The Hellwig Adjustable Rear Anti-Sway Bar item # HE56TR is 1" in diameter so I highly recommend taking a quick measurement of the one on yours to make sure you're actually upgrading to a thick bar. That sounds like a fun project! I get that about the kids being too old. Mine sure grew up quick. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to reach out!
