Will this trailer work with an Old Town Saranac 146 canoe? The dimensions are 14 ft 6 in x 36 in.

Hello Jim, thanks for reaching out. You’re in good shape with that setup. The Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer # MAL43FR will work well with your Old Town Saranac 146. That canoe length is just fine for this trailer, and the V-style bunks are adjustable wide enough to properly support a 36" hull without putting odd pressure on it.

You may find you need to slide the canoe slightly rearward to get the balance and clearance just right, but once it’s positioned, it’ll ride solid and secure without excess hull stress. Just make sure you’ve got it centered on the bunks and use bow and stern tie-downs along with your main straps so everything stays stable on the road. Once it’s dialed in, it’s a really straightforward setup that will work well for you. The low deck height really makes loading and unloading much easier.

Where do you usually paddle your Saranac? Is it more for fishing or leisure?

Hey Matthew, yes you could install a 16 foot canoe on the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer part #MAL73FR if you wanted to. The adjustable bunks on the trailer would easily allow for this.
