How To Safely Drink Lake Water While Boondocking In 2021 Coachmen Apex Nano RV

Published 03/25/2026

Question:

We’re planning a longer boondocking trip through Idaho in our 2021 Coachmen Apex Nano. Is there a way to safely use water from a lake if we need to?

Hello Derek, that’s exactly the kind of scenario the ARX+ filter kit # GB54FR was built for.

It has a built-in 12V pump and battery, so it can pull water directly from a lake or container and run it through a 4-stage filtration system before sending it into your RV. That gives you a reliable way to refill good drinkable water without main water hookups like a campsite would have.

It’s a big upgrade from just hauling extra water, especially on longer trips. Some people also just keep it as a backup emergency situation in case they run out of water.

I've attached a help article which covers how to sanitize your fresh water tank and keep everything fresh, so I recommend scrolling down on that article and reading through how to do that.

How many days are you usually staying off-grid when you’re out like that? Is there a particular spot in Idaho you like to go?
