Is There A Portable Water Filter System For Campers Off-Grid Or At Campsite?

Published 03/25/2026

Question:

We do a mix of campground stays and off-grid in our 2020 NOBO 19.8, and I’m trying to avoid carrying so much water. Is there one filter system that can kind of do both? Sort of like a filter I can use at the campsite but also off-grid water like lakes etc.

Hello Jenna, the closest thing to a “do-it-all” option here is the ARX+ # GB54FR.

It can pull water from off-grid sources thanks to its built-in pump, which covers your boondocking trips - but it can also be connected to a campground spigot if needed. You’d just want to add a pressure regulator since it doesn’t include one. Blue Tech says "the ARX+ system was not designed to be connected to pressurized water, but after lab testing the ARX+ system with a connection to a 60 PSI water source for 2,000 gallons, no issues were observed."

So if you went that route, it gives you flexibility, especially if you’re trying to rely less on hauling water. That being said, I'd grab that kit for off-grid and then just install a simple inline filter like the SOLO # GB64FR under the sink or before your fresh water tank to have a permanent water filter inside for when you're hooked up to water at a campsite and don't want to use the portable one every time.

Are you finding yourself off-grid more often lately, or still mostly splitting time between both?
