Can I use the BXR 2100 hitch with Curt Helux Pin Box

Question:

Can I use the BXR 2100 hitch if the fifth wheel I’m considering comes with the Curt Helux shock absorbing pin box. I know Blue Ox recommends using a lock out kit for the Roto-flex pin boxes which pivot front to back.

Hi Gary, that’s a really smart question to ask and you’re right to be thinking about how these components work together. The Curt Helux 5th wheel pin box like part # C65MJ is not recommended for use with gooseneck adapters like the Blue Ox BXR2100. The Helux already has a built in coil and shock system to absorb movement, and adding an adapter changes how force is applied to the trailer frame, which can lead to added stress over time. That’s why manufacturers advise keeping that style of pin box paired with a standard fifth wheel hitch rather than stacking it with an adapter.

Now there is a Curt Helux that is also a gooseneck adapter like part # C22UB. If that is the pin box you have, you can just use your gooseneck ball for that.
