Comparing the Thule Basin Rooftop Tent and the Thule Basin Wedge Rooftop

Updated 03/25/2026 | Published 03/23/2026

Question:

I have a 2023 Ember Overland Micro Rok square camper that can take a Thule roof top tent. Its a tall unit at just over 9ft. Were trying to decide between the Thule Basin and Thule Basin Wedge. The camper has a fully walkable roof, stand strength fenders and gear box, so getting access to the tent to set up and tear down isnt overly difficult, however, because of height I am thinking that the Thule Basin Wedge will be easier. Help me decide! Thank you, Amy Minikus

Hey Amy, thanks for reaching out!

You’re definitely thinking about this the right way, especially with the height of your camper.

Between the Thule Basin # TH32VY and the Basin Wedge # TH92VY, both will work on your setup, but with your camper sitting just over 9 ft tall, I would lean toward the Basin Wedge. The wedge-style design is a lot quicker and easier to open and close, which makes a big difference when you’re working up that high, even with good access like you have.

The main advantage of the standard Basin is the extra interior space since it lifts straight up, which can feel a little more open when you’re inside.

The Basin Wedge trades a bit of that space for a simpler setup. It opens in one motion and tends to be easier to manage overall, especially on a taller rig like yours.

Ember campers are pretty cool. I got to see several of their newer campers at a recent show local to us and I really liked them. Will you mainly be using the rooftop tent as extra sleeping space, or more for quick overnight stops?
