Hey everyone, I'm Evangeline right here at etrailer and I'm super excited to talk about the Thule Widesky rooftop tent. Now I've gone on several different adventures and camping trips. I've even taken out some different Thule rooftop tents for my own journeys. And while we are gonna go through a bunch of different features of the Widesky, there's two main things that really had me excited about this video. The first is this is one of the lightest hard shell tents that I've been able to work with. It actually fits on top of my smaller car.

And while this is not just a bed on your roof, this also converts into a sofa so that you can get in there and enjoy the Widesky. There's a lot of great things with a hard shell rooftop tent. With this aluminum casing, I know that even if I go through some crazy weather, this is gonna hold up under it. And with this too, it's gonna sit a bit more sleek and not as bulky compared to a cloth tent. But most importantly, for me at least, I know that a hard shell rooftop tent is gonna be super easy to set up.

When you get to the campsite, all you need to do is undo four latches, one and two up front. Latches three and four are gonna be here in the back. And once everything is unlatched, then on the sides you have this handy handle that you can then use to lift up on the tent. Once you get it up, everything takes over. A lot of tents have a very specific spot that their ladder comes out and that's where you access the tent.

But with the Widesky, you can pick whichever side you want to get in at. Now if I wanted to, I could put my ladder off the back of my car, but I have a hatch door that I still wanna open and I'm towing a trailer. So what will work better for me is right here off the passenger side. The ladder is recommended you store this separately from your tent and this has a little tab on the end that slides into the channel on the end of your tent. So here if I want it on the passenger side, I'm just going to line the ladder up with this channel and then slide on through.

I'm just gonna adjust to wherever I want that best lines up for the door, and I'm just gonna let it drop right where it sits. Now this doesn't quite look like a ladder, but that's because it's in its own bag. So undo that hook and loop strip and the zippers along the side and ta-da, you reveal your ladder. Plus the bag helps as your organizer and your storage and also to help protect if in case it does come in contact with your vehicle side, just protects and prevent scratching up that finish. Some tips to setting up your ladder. That organizer, you'll want it secure around the rungs of your ladder so it doesn't blow away. You'll also want to have it set out at a 45 degree angle past your tent. So if you do have this on a shorter vehicle like mine, what I've noticed is that I much prefer having the rungs bunched up closer to the tent and then just having this stretch out further out towards the bottom. So you may have to do some adjustments of your rungs, and you do have these little latches underneath the rungs that lock into place in the position once they're extended. And just like that, I can now access my tent here from the side, hop in, get comfy and look, here we are here out the back. We can now just sit out, relax, and enjoy the Widesky. For a tent that's under 150 pounds, once you open it up, it's surprisingly roomy. This is a two person tent with plenty of space here on the inside. Now with that flange, you're definitely gonna get more head room the closer out to the end that you get. And here we have so much space that that makes for a much more comfortable sleeping experience where you don't feel as claustrophobic. The mattress inside this tent is very comfy. We're gonna have like a good thickness here. Gives a good amount of support. Much better than my own personal inflatable sleeping pad. But the cool thing about this is it's not just a mattress to cover the footprint of your tent, but this actually folds up with some interesting straps designed to turn into a couch. So rather than folding anything yourself, you just pull on these two straps on this side. Let me go over to the side here so you can see it better. And as you pull, this lifts up the back of the mattress turning what used to be a bed space into more of a lounge space. Inside the tent, you actually have plenty of storage options where you have these netted pockets, two on each side where you can put your personal effects, like your wallets, your glasses. I like to put my hygiene toothbrush, things like that here in the pocket. On the other side, I use the pouch here to put a power bank so that I can utilize the lights turn on in the tent. If you have time for a little bit more adjustments, you also have all these different options here in the back of your different walls. So you can either have your screen wall, you can have your regular door, and you can set up the awning. So let's do that. When you have your awning unwrapped and you can find your rain fly rods hidden in a pocket right in there, you just attach the rain fly rod to the grommets on the awning. And then with that attached, you also need to secure your rod into this anchor point here at the very end. Now, if you've never set up rain fly rods before, they do require a good amount of bend to them to properly insert. You also have these zippers. It's a pretty windy day here at etrailer so it's been really nice to see how our tent has held up as I've been setting it up and also as I have it all set up. And that's really the most important thing when you are out camping, you're out adventuring, you're going to be in nature, in the wilderness, you're gonna be experiencing storms, sun, wind, all kinds of things. That's just part of that adventure. So having a tent or a base camp that can handle that adventure that you are looking for is gonna be very important. I have this secured on my car, which is very impressive because other hard shell tents are usually too heavy to go on a smaller vehicle like this. Since this Widesky only weighs 150 pounds, this fits in my dynamic weight capacity of my roof rack. Real quick, dynamic weight capacity is how much weight you are carrying while you are moving. Very different from the static weight capacity when you are parked and that's why you can crawl into the tent. You can bring another person in there. You can carry your dog in the tent, even if that's over the dynamic weight capacity of your roof rack, you are fine 'cause you're not moving. Now to secure the tent to your roof rack, it has these handy dandy clamps. These clamps fit onto a variety of roof rack crossbars. Usually you'll have the clamp in this position, but in certain situations you might even flip it around and secure in this position. The roof rack or the roof tent has a little measurement to help you figure out what will actually work. When you secure it, you bring this around your bars, you fit the brackets into the channels of your tent, and then you just flip it around to secure just like that. So let's see here on our crossbars, we just bring these up to the channels and to secure, you do have this ratcheting tool included with your tent. So this will be used to tighten down on your bolts. And once you get to the proper tension, this will actually click to prevent over tightening. That really is the cool thing about this tent. It can fit on a variety of vehicles, whether it's your large over landing rigs or your smaller cars like mine where I'm just more of a casual camper every other weekend and not a full lifestyle, the Widesky can fit. Now my tip is just to double check the roof rack weight capacity that you have to make sure you have enough dynamic weight capacity to support this tent. And also while you can adjust this back and forth to get a better fit on your car, as long as you don't go past the center of gravity, you wanna make sure that you're evenly distributed for the most secure fit. Now, the things we talked about today, those are just mainly the standouts from my experience of using rooftop tents. Those are the things that really make the Widesky unique and something worth being excited about.
