Question:
I am looking for a roof box for my 2025 Toyota Sienna to carry 3 folded dog crates. The largest crate is 4inch x 29inch x 44inch folded. The other 2 are the same height folded but smaller than 29inch x 44. Would these fit in the TH27SA even if I had to place the smaller crates in first to make sure the large crate is positioned at the widest part of the box?

Hi Denton, you’re thinking about this exactly the right way, and I can tell you’re trying to avoid ending up with a box that technically works on paper but turns into a hassle every time you load it.
With the Thule Force 3 XXL part # TH27SA, your largest folded crate at 29 inches wide is right up against the usable width of the box. On paper the box is about 30.5 inches wide inside, but in real use that full width is only available at the very bottom center because the sides curve inward and the lid tapers. That means your idea of loading the smaller crates first and positioning the larger one in the widest section is the correct approach, but it is going to be a snug fit and may take a little angling or repositioning to get it to sit right.
The length and height are no issue at all, so your main limitation is strictly that width. I would expect the large crate to fit, but it will be tight enough that loading and unloading could feel a bit tedious, especially if the crates are rigid and don’t flex at all. The smaller crates should fit around it, but you will likely be arranging things each time rather than having a simple drop in setup.
If you are open to an alternative, I recommend the Yakima SkyBox NX XXL part # Y43QD it tends to be a bit more forgiving for this type of cargo. The interior floor is flatter and more consistent side to side, which makes it easier to slide larger items into place without fighting the shape of the box as much. The width of this box is also 36" wide so it gives you about 3-1/2 inches on either side to play with.
Where are you and the pups headed first in the Sienna, and what other gear do you love to bring along for the trip?
