Which Air Bags Suspension Upgrade Kit Is Best For 2016 Infiniti QX80 ?

Updated 03/17/2026 | Published 03/15/2026

Question:

Hi I have a 2016 Infiniti qx80 limited. Right now it has the OEM suspension with the automatic ride height/air compressor that adjusts for sag under load in the back. At 203k miles so needed to change the shock but looking to switch to the Bilstein 4600 rear shocks and the AirLift 60809 airbags instead of going back with OEM due to cost and less parts that can break. I see that it says it’s not compatible so not guaranteed to fit but the Firestone airbag setup is. Can you confirm? I also tow a 2022 airstream 27’ flying cloud FBQ with about 900lb tongue weight with an equalizer 12k weight distribution hitch. Recommendations? Don’t think I want to remain with OEM unless you think that’s still best?

Hey Nick!

The Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # F4164 is indeed confirmed to fit the rear coils on your 2016 Infiniti QX80. The factory auto-adjust height is not a concern since it's on the strut side, not the coil spring. The AirLift part you mentioned is not a fit for your vehicle at all; it's for a Toyota. I don't see any AirLift part that fits your vehicle at this time unless you were to do a custom deal by measuring which Air Lift part fits in the coil, but I can't confirm fitment there. Is there a reason you don't want Firestone?

I'd just stick with the Firestone which IS confirmed as a fit. Those Bilstein 4600 struts should work nicely if you already confirmed the correct part for your vehicle. I've heard great things about that company so I bet you will be happy with them!

With the suspension upgrades and using your WDH, I don't see any issues towing your airstream. Just stay under your max towing capacity and tongue weight rating and you're all set (check owner's manual).

Where are you headed this spring/summer for some camping?
