Will the Yakima GrandTour Lo Rooftop Cargo Box Y46FR Work w/a 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV?

Question:

I am looking for a long and wide roof box to fit fit a surfboard and this seems to have the right measurements for me. However, it would be mounted on a Chevy Bolt EUV with low profile roof racks. The racks measure: 51inch front to hatch, 24inch rear to hatch, 27inch spread, so it seems like they technically could fit this. However, I assume the box would stick out over the windshield. Is this a bad idea and is going to dramatically affect aerodynamics/mileage? Note: Not too concerned about the rear hatch opening, the idea is to use the box and back seat for gear. Alternatively, I can just attach the board directly to the roof rack. P.S. eTrailer is awesome.

Thanks for the measurements! The Yakima GrandTour Lo Rooftop Cargo Box item # Y46FR will indeed fit the roof rack on your 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV. It's 37" wide and requires crossbars spaced 24" - 38" apart. Glad you're not wanting to open the rear hatch because there's no way with this long of a box on that short of a car.

As far as mounting the Yakima GrandTour item # Y46FR over your windshield goes. There's no law against it so long as it doesn't obstruct your view of the road. I highly recommend centering it as much as possible on your roof though.

All roof boxes are going to affect aerodynamics, especially on a smaller car like yours. However, the Yakima GrandTour item # Y46FR has been designed to minimize that impact. It's only 10" tall and the smooth surfaces reduce drag and wind noise.

The Yakima GrandTour item # Y46FR has a inside height of 8", it is 85" long from lid support to lid support, and 27-1/2" wide between the latches.

How long is your surfboard?

Thanks for the fast and detailed reply. My surfboard is 71" x 31". I see the width is a little less on this box, but my understanding is that there is actually more space available as long as you are okay with something being on top of the clamps (i.e., not full height available. So, I think this may work for me.
