Recommended Bearing Covers for a Homemade Boat Trailer

Updated 03/12/2026 | Published 03/04/2026

Question:

I have an older homemade boat trailer that the bearing covers of 1.98 inches are just a bit too small for. The 1.98 inch appears to be the same size as what I need to cover. Do you have any options for something that would fit this bearing size...just over 2 inches is what I think it needs to be

Hey Doug. We have two Bearing Buddy Bras that are just over 2". They're the item # BB19B which has an outer diameter of 2-1/8" and the item # BB17B that has an outer diameter of 2".

If you're needing an actual set of Bearing Buddys and not just the bra. We have a couple of options that will fit a bit larger than a 2" hub bore.

2.047" Hub Bore - Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 2047SS - Stainless Steel (Pair) item # BB2047SS

2.080" Hub Bore - Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 2047SS - Stainless Steel (Pair) item # BB2080SS

The Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 1980-SS - Stainless Steel (Pair) item # BB84SR are what's recommended for a 1.980 hub bore.

Do you have a part number off of one of your hubs? I can look up what Bearing Buddy you need if you could put that information below where it says Add Comment.

I bought these and I'm very happy with them. They are for my boat trailer which is also very old. Just take your time to make sure you get the correct size.
