Does Stealth Hitch for 2026 Tesla Model 3 Have Capacity for Motorcycle Carrier
Updated 03/06/2026 | Published 03/02/2026 >
Question:
With the max tongue weight being 350 lbs, would I be able to haul a dirt bike on a hitch mounted carrier as long as the total is under 350 lbs? I’ve seen other sites mention the model 3 has a max vertical load of ~160lbs so just trying to clear up some confusion.

Hey Eric, the Stealth hitch part # 391TES317T that you referenced does have the tongue weight capacity for a dirt bike and motorcycle carrier as it has a 350 lb tongue weight capacity like you noted but you are only as strong as the weakest component in a towing setup so if your vehicle only a 160 lb tongue weight capacity that would be the overall capacity. What dirt bike do you have?

The Model 3 has no tongue weight published for the US model because it has no factory tow package. The Stealth Hitch is engineered for 350 lb when on the Model 3. There are 2 caveats. 1. Weight behind the bumper weighs heavily on the rear axle. If the car is otherwise lightly loaded no problem. Also having heavy weights in the trunk & back seat can overload the rear axle. 2. tongue weight is a rotational force on the mounting points by a weight directly over the trailer ball. The trailer ball is about 16" behind the mounting points. 16" = 1.33 ft. 1.33 ft x 350 lb = 465 ft lb. The pin hole on the 2" receiver is about 10" behind the mounting points. Measure how far the center of the wheel hoops are behind the pin hole on your carrier. Add 10" to that distance. Convert to feet. Divide 465 ft lb by that number of feet. That is the motorcycle & carrier weight equivalent to 350 lb tongue weight.

Tongue weight poor Trailer is typically quite a bit higher than the vertical weight you can carry like a motorcycle

I can only share my experience with this hitch but I see no issue with you using a bike ramp style carrier . I suspect you may have some rear suspension sag simply due to all the weight being directly on the tounge. Make damn sure the lock in riser extension is seated into its notch and locked. I had it drop out ONE time due to not paying attention which caused the trailer to slam into the back of the car…. This hitch is pretty overbuilt. The brackets and bars behind the bumper are very tough. I have seriously used and abused this car and hitch setup and have had zero issues. I have pulled 3800lbs of scrap metal behind mine with a 2 5/16 ball trailer. I regularly use the 2” ball to Pull a 19Ft excel metal fishing boat and tandem jet ski trailers frequently during the summer. From my personal experience you’re more likely to damage the car before any component on this hitch system fails. Just my 2c Always be safe. Don’t be me.
