Question:
Do the Mini Split AC units in RVs need a soft start?

Hello Michael, welcome back! Most RV mini split AC units do not need a soft start. Unlike traditional rooftop ACs that hit hard at startup, mini splits typically use inverter driven compressors that ramp up gradually and avoid that big power spike. Because of that softer startup behavior, they already draw lower inrush amperage and are much easier on generators and shore power. Unless you are running a non-inverter model, which is rare for RVs, a soft start is not necessary.
