Hi there. I am a tech in Texas, and customer wants to replace the Girard GSWH-2 with a new unit likely this one. My question is, what size opening is required for both heaters? Just wanna make sure it will fit as a direct replacement. Thank you.

Hey, Shade.

I did some searching into the Girard GSWH-2 and yes, it would be a great replacement. Both the Girard and the Fogatti InstaShower 8 Plus part # FG76FR require a 13 x 13" cutout. There is a slight difference in depth between the Girard and Fogatti, 13-3/4" and 13-13/16" respectfully. With that minimal difference, you shouldn't have any issues at all swapping over to the Fogatti.
