Auto Changeover Regulator for 30-ft Airstream Flying Cloud

Updated 02/12/2026 | Published 02/09/2026

Question:

I have a 30-ft Airstream Flying Cloud with two propane tanks. The current or/regulator knob broke. I’m considering the Flame King KT12ACR6 dual-tank regulator. I plan to run one tank at a time manually for now, but may use automatic changeover later after adding gauges. Is the KT12ACR6 a good fit for this use, or would you recommend a different regulator or manual or setup? Also, is there a tank-mounted safety shutoff device like GasStop that is compatible with my Airstream I’ve heard space under the aluminum propane tank cover can be tight? Thanks.

Hey Sam, we don't carry the KT12ACR6 regulator but I don't see why it wouldn't work. We have similar auto change over regulators like the JR Products part # 37207-31525 though which would work great too.

The GasStop is a propane leak detector which we have as well with the part # CAM59023. This doesn't have an auto shut off built into it though.

I thought the sole purpose of the GasStop was to shut itself off when it detects the gas flow is too high. Regarding the JR Products 07-31525 Compact Low-Pressure Two-Stage Automatic Changeover RV LP Gas Regulator: is it only an automatic changeover device, or can it be set to operate manually? I want a manual option so I can know when one tank is empty. I don’t mind running out at 2 a.m. and switching over myself.

@SamC You're right the GasStop does also shut down the system if a leak is detected so what I mentioned isn't an exact replacement. The auto changeover regulator I mentioned can be manually put on either tank as well.
