Hello Kyle,
As long as the plug-in is there under the dash, the Curt Spectrum Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness - Dash Mounted Knob - Up to 4 Axles - Proportional # C74YV will plug right into it. Even when vehicles do not come with the tow package, some still have the brake controller plug from the factory, so if you already found it, you are good =)
You mentioned you do not have the tow package, which means you will need all of the towing components. This is what you will need:
- Hitch: etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e89KR. I really like that our etrailer hitch comes in a matte black finish since it gives it a clean OEM look. I always recommend checking your owner’s manual to confirm what Volkswagen rates the Touareg to tow, as hitch ratings are often higher than what the vehicle itself is allowed to handle.
- Wiring: You will start by installing the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118668. This will get all of your trailer lights working and give you a 4-flat at the back. Since you’ll be towing a 20-foot trailer with brakes, you will then build on top of that wiring by installing the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7. This setup allows the brake controller to properly activate the trailer brakes so your Touareg isn’t doing all the stopping.
- Ball Mount: etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball - 2" Hitch - 2" Drop - 7,500 lbs # e67DR. The black nickel plating on the hitch ball is a nice touch and holds up well over time.
Once everything is installed and adjusted correctly, the trailer brakes will take a lot of strain off your vehicle’s brakes, which is exactly what you want when towing something this size.
What kind of car will you be hauling? Classic car?

Ill have to check u der the dash for the plug. But for the rear i already every to hook up and give power to the trailer with a 4 pin. The 7 blade connection uses a.harness for the touareg with the towing package. I got the harness going from the 7 blade connector to the towing module would be if I got one. Honestly just trying to minimize the amount of digging and tearing apart the interior to feed wires
