Hi Bernard, thanks for reaching out. When a Pace Edwards Full Metal JackRabbit starts creeping open on its own, especially when parked, it’s almost always a tension or alignment issue.
Since you’ve already confirmed the rails are fully seated and the measurements are equal front to back, the next things I’d focus on are the canister spring tension and latch engagement. Over time, the internal tension can relax slightly, which allows the cover to push itself open even when latched. Pace Edwards has a spring tension adjustment procedure for this exact symptom, and re-tensioning the cover usually fixes it. It’s done at the canister end and doesn’t require removing the whole cover, just careful adjustment following their instructions.
First, fully close and latch the cover, then go to the passenger-side end of the canister and loosen the small set screw on the spring tension adjuster. Turn the adjuster 1/4 to 1/2 turn at a time to adjust tension, tighten the set screw, and test the cover. Repeat in small increments until it stays closed, being careful not to over-tension, which can make the cover hard to operate or cause damage.
I’d also double-check that there’s no debris or binding in the latch area. Even a small amount of friction or a latch that’s not dropping all the way can cause the cover to release under spring pressure, especially when the truck is parked on a slight incline.

Hey Bernard, how did things go after you adjusted the spring tension on your Full Metal JackRabbit cover? Did that stop it from creeping open when parked? Your update could make it easier for the next person with the same issue.
