Is There a Way to Have 12 Volt Accessory Circuit of F-150 7-Way Active at All Times

Updated 03/04/2026 | Published 01/30/2026

Question:

2019 Ford F150 How can I possibly get power to my 7 pin plug without connecting a trailer? I have a handicap lift that needs power to work and lights for just the tag. I cannot get it to power up

Hey James, the best way is to bypass it all by running a power wire from the positive post of the vehicle battery back to the 7-way 12 volt accessory pin instead of the factory wiring that is there currently. To do that you would want 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 which is sold by the foot and a breaker to install inline with this circuit with the part # 9510.

Hey James, how did things go after running the new power wire and breaker to your 7-way plug? Your results could really help others trying to power accessories without a trailer connected.

It did not work as expected. I was trying to get it to power a handicap scooter power lift but my Ford F150 would not activate it because there was no lights power draw to make it think a trailer was connected. In order to get it to activate I’d have to wire up lights onto that lift and that would put me at a disadvantage advantage of running more wiring. It’s in my junk box now and I’m back at square one. @JamesonC
