Best Tire Chains For 2022 Acura MDX With 255/50R20 Tires

Question:
My owners manual for my 2022 MDX recommends using Konig XB-16 265 chains. Can I substitute the Laclede Alpine chains 2324. Tires are 255/50/20

Hey Terry, thanks for reaching out. While the Laclede Alpine 2324 chains do technically list fitment for 255/50R20, I would not recommend substituting them for the König XB-16 size 265 that Acura specifies in the owner’s manual. We have those exact Konig chains available as part # th2004705265. The MDX has tight wheel well and suspension clearances, and Acura’s recommendation is based not just on tire size, but on overall chain profile, internal clearance, and consistent performance.
The König XB-16 chains are a much better match for your MDX. They’re a true low-profile chain designed specifically for vehicles that require limited inside clearance, which is exactly why Acura calls them out by model.
Beyond fitment, there’s also a big difference in durability and long-term reliability. König backs their chains with a 5-year warranty, compared to a much shorter coverage period on the Laclede set (30 days), which says a lot about build quality and expected lifespan. Given that pricing is very similar, there’s really no upside to stepping away from the König option.
Are you traveling somewhere where you will actually use the chains? Or will you be keeping them in the car for just in case?

Hello and thanks for the response. I live in California and need to carry chains when we go skiing. I have only needed to install chains once in the past 30 years, so these will probably never get used. I found a new unused set of the Laclede chains for $45 locally. Do you think this is an OK scenario to substitute these chains. Thanks
