Will Progressive Dynamics 2000 Watt Inverter Prioritize Battery Power Over Shore Power

Updated 01/24/2026 | Published 01/15/2026

Question:

Does the Progressive Dynamics 2000w Inverter w/Transfer Switch prioritize battery power over shore power? Some inverters do not readily switch back from battery power to shore power once it is restored.

Hey Greg, welcome back! The Progressive Dynamics 2000 Watt Inverter w/ Transfer Switch # PD64FR prioritizes shore power over battery power.

When shore power is detected at the AC input port the transfer switch will automatically disconnect the inverter output to save your battery life. You can expect a slight delay since that is built in to make sure the incoming power stabilizes before transferring but it will switch over without you having to do anything.

Are you adding this as part of a solar setup?

No, I use it for our upgraded refrigerator to 110 volt residential to keep it running travel days and power outages, which i guess is part of my solar set up. It has worked out great so far.

@Mike Sounds good! Thanks to all for the replies. I plan to use it for the inverter prep loop in my Imagine 2500RL.

The progressive dynamics inverter switches almost instantly from shore power to battery and back to shore power when 110AC is restored. We have used it to keep us powered on travel days and when boondocking. It’s never let us down.

We do our fair share of boondocking and have the remote inverter switch in the kitchen for when we need 110 power for microwave or coffee pot. When we plug into shore power, transfer switch feeds all the 110 circuits almost immediately. It's all been working out great for 2 seasons now.
