DeeMax Disc Brake Kit that Fits 2020 Keystone Montana 3791RD

Updated 01/12/2026 | Published 01/11/2026

Question:

I currently have a 2020 Montana 3791RD RV. Im looking to switch to disc brakes. The conversion kit Im looking at is part DE46AR. The question is, will this work and my current drum brakes are 12. This kit has 13 rotors? Is that what I can use? Thanks Jeff

Hey Jeffrey, the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers # DE46AR will work on your 2020 Montana 3791RD that currently has 12 inch brake assemblies but since this is a slip on kit without idler hubs you would need to get those as well like with the part # AKIHUB-865-7-1-EZ-K. You'd need a quantity of 4 of these hubs. How did you like the braking performance of the drum brakes you have currently?

Hey Jameson, Thanks for the reply. Also, thanks for pointing out I needed the hubs. The drum breaks suck. I mean they work but we rounded a curve to stopped traffic on a four lane highway. almost had to go into the media. We are thinking about traveling more and I’m quite sure these would be better than what I have. Whats the difference between the Hydrostar and the DeeMax, other than a little cheaper? Just want something that will last and work good. Thanks so much for you time. Jeff

@JeffreyE Yeah disc brakes are considerably more powerful than drum brakes so you are on the right track if you are wanting to really improve stopping distance and be as safe as possible. Hydrostar and DeeMax are both really high quality and you can't go wrong with either. For the longest time Hydrostar was was the king of the actuators and was always what we recommended because of how well they work and how reliable they are. So if you go that route you'll be in a good place. DeeMax actuators are newer but everything we've heard is they are really nice and perform well. They came here and showed us their brake components and their actuators and they were very impressive so I know you'll be happy if you go that route. If it were me I would view them basically as equals and go with whichever was priced better.
