Question:
I am building a home in the Southern Virginia mountains. I frequently place loads of up to and beyond 1000 lbs on my reinforced roof rack and/or truck bed. I have installed an extra leaf to my rear suspension and although it helped when towing my boat, heavy loads still tax my suspension. I need suspension help during those times of heavy loads....concrete bags...wood on rack...etc. I have a 2005 Chevy Colorado Z71 5 cyl, double cab truck. I know many times I exceed the capacity of such a small truck and will never fixinch my issues, but it is all I have to work with and cannot afford another truck. Any help with supporting the load, improved drivability and reduced sway I am willing to try.

Hey Ron,
Building a house in the mountains sounds awesome! I understand where you are at with the truck so what I am going to recommend is the best option to help with rear sag. Although airbags will not increase the weight capacity of the vehicle, it will help take the stress of the rear with the many different weight loads.
I recommend the Firestone # F2384 airbags. These are a not drill installation that will allow you to air up those bags when a load is put in the truck to help reduce the sag. Typically you can air these up with any air pump, they use the same fitting but it sounds like you are up in the mountains so I would also recommend having a compressor on board to air them up whenever you need. The Firestone # F2158 will mount on the vehicle and allow you to air them up at any time.
What sparked the idea of building out there in the mountains?

Hey, Nick. 37 years of marriage, we have learned a lot of building knowledge. As a teacher and a nurse, we knew that if we wanted nice things, we would have to do them ourselves. Our first home started with installing a small tile floor.... a few different homes and many projects later, we build our own addition. Building our own cabin is a bucket list item we have thought about for years. Two years ago we finally did it. Bought land in the mountains and off we went. MaryAnn is retired and I retire in a year. Soon to be drinking coffee in the Virginia Mountains on the deck of our cabin!!!
