How To Install Bulldog Winch BDW15006 On A Trailer Tongue

Updated 12/29/2025 | Published 12/05/2025

Question:

Good Morning, I have a badland 2500. I ran the 32 cable from the battery to the back of my truck. I have a 20 x 6 trailer. I use it to pick up golf carts. Sometimes the golf cart is dead and need to get it on the trailer.I plan on mounting the 2500 on the tongue of the trailer. How to install and what kind of circuit breaker should I use ? Thank you

Hello George, thanks for reaching out. Mounting the Bulldog # BDW15006 on a trailer tongue is pretty straightforward. Bolt it to a solid 1/4 inch steel plate on the A-frame so the winch sits square with the direction of pull, and make sure the fairlead lines up cleanly with the cable path. If your trailer tongue is on the lighter side, it doesn’t hurt to add a little reinforcement underneath so the tongue doesn’t twist when the winch is working hard.

For wiring, put a battery on the tongue to keep the run short, use 2 AWG cables for both power and ground, and install a 300-amp manual-reset breaker right at the battery. Run a dedicated ground back to the battery instead of relying on the trailer frame, then bond the frame to the battery negative. That setup will give the winch full power and keep the wiring protected and safe.

Hey George, how did the setup on your trailer tongue go with the Bulldog winch and 300-amp breaker? It’d be great to hear if that wiring layout gave you the pulling power you needed for the golf carts. Your update could make it easier for others planning a similar setup.
