Would Thule Hullavator Work With Rivian R1S OEM Roof Rack?

Question:

Im trying to install the Thule Hullavator on a Rivian R1S. I already have the Rivian Cargo Crossbars so Id prefer to use these if possible. The Hullavator requires the crossbars to overhang and the Rivian Crossbars dont. Is there a way to stackinch Thule Squarebars or similar to the Rivian Crossbars? Is this a safe arrangement? thanks for your help.

Hey Gabriel, thanks for reaching out! The Thule Hullavator Pro # TH898 requires crossbars that extend past the side of the vehicle to allow the arms to pivot down alongside the car. Unfortunately, the factory Rivian Cargo Crossbars are flush-mounted and don’t have the necessary side overhang, so the Hullavator can’t be safely used with them.

There isn’t a safe or recommended way to stack Thule crossbars on top of the Rivian bars or to modify them for this purpose. Doing so could compromise both the load rating and vehicle safety.

To use the Hullavator on your R1S, you will need to remove the OEM roof rack and use an aftermarket rack such as the following:
