Can I Trim Or Overlap ZeroStart Battery Heat Pad If It's Too Long For Truck Battery?

Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 11/04/2025

Question:

Can I trim the Zerostart 160-watt pad if it’s too long for my truck battery? what about overlapping it around one spot on the battery if too long?

No, Tom; good thing you asked before cutting. You should never cut a heat pad for batteries, no matter the brand.

As far as overlapping goes, the Zerostart 160-Watt Pad # ZE27FR runs warm enough that trimming or overlapping could cause hot spots if overlapping quite a bit. If it's just a small section as seen in the attached photo, that would be perfectly fine!

This setup will do a great job of keeping the case warm and the cranking power strong on those cold starts.

What kind of truck are you running this on?

Got it, thanks for the heads up. It’s going on my 2015 Ram 3500, looks like it’ll overlap just a couple inches on the Group 31 batteries.

@Tom Perfect, that little bit of overlap is no problem at all. The # ZE27FR is built with a thick Thinsulate layer, so a small overlap won’t create a hotspot - just don’t double it up completely.
