Can The Marlboro 3" Wide x 6' Long Continuous Hinge MA45VR Be Cut To 4' Long?

Question:

can the 3inch X 6foot piano hinge be cut to a 4foot length and still function the same? Will the 1/4inch pin still stay in place, or is something needed on the end? Thanks.

Hi Ken!

The Marlboro 3" Wide Continuous Hinge - 6' Long - 1/4" Pin Diameter - Steel # MA45VR can indeed be cut down to 4'. I do recommend removing the pin and pulling the two sides of the hinge apart though as it will make it easier. Cutting at the ends of the hinge loops will also give you a cleaner look than trying to cut through them (see attached image).

The pin is held in with friction (which will make getting it out a bit of a pain), so you will not need anything to keep it in place once cut.

Hey Ken, how did trimming that 6-foot hinge down to 4 feet work out for your project? Did the pin stay snug once you reassembled it? Your results could help others planning to shorten the same hinge.
