Will Dash Indicator Light Drain My Car Battery If Left On Overnight When Using Napier Sportz Awning?

Question:

Will the dash rear door indicator light kill the battery overnight. It does not shut off when the hatch is open

Hello Mike, thanks for reaching out, and good question, I never really thought of that. Dash indicator lights draw very little power, like only a few milliamps. Most modern vehicles can handle that kind of draw overnight with no problem. As long as the car is allowed to run for a while the following day, there would be no concern of the battery dying. That would only become a concern if the light was left on for multiple days without starting the car and letting the alternator charge the battery a bit.

Thanks, that was my thinking also but was unsure. Better safe than stupid.

@MikeH No problem at all, glad I could help! It’s definitely better to double-check than end up with a dead battery. That little light won’t hurt anything overnight, but it’s smart to keep an eye on it if the vehicle’s sitting for a few days. Appreciate you reaching out, and safe travels out there!
