Troubleshooting Solera Awning That Opens Slow, Pops Fuse And Wire Gets Hot

Question:
2018 Thor freedom elite with solar awning motor. Opens slow pops fuse closes fine. Wire gets hot. I suspect bad motor, haven’t checked voltage to it yet. How do you recommend I troubleshoot? Thank you

Hello Taylor, thanks for reaching out. This does sound like a bad motor but you will definitely want to test with a multimeter and make sure the motor is getting 12 volts. Also check the ground wire coming off the switch and make sure that is solid.
Did the awning sustain any damage that you are aware of? I have heard of the pitch arms getting bent which can cause issues like you are describing.
If all of that checks out that points to a bad motor. You can replace yours with the following:

Hey Taylor, how did things go after you checked the voltage and ground on your awning motor? Did replacing it with the newer Solera motor fix the slow opening issue? Your update could make it easier for others with the same setup.
