Old Air-Ride Pin Box Leaks - Upgrading To Goosetech Setup Instead Of Heavy Fifth Wheel Hitch

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 10/30/2025

Question:

Our old air-ride pin box leaks constantly. Is there a low-maintenance option that still smooths out the bumps? would like to use with gooseneck instead since we need to spend money either way so looking at the goosetech setup. thank you. Tina

Yes, Tina, the MORryde GooseTech is a great modern solution for that. Instead of air bags, it uses a rubber shear-spring to absorb shock without needing air pressure checks. It’s essentially maintenance-free and a big upgrade over traditional 5th-wheel gear since you can ditch the hitch entirely.

What trailer are you running now so I can verify the pin-box fit? I've attached an article that helps you find that out on your own, but I'm here if you need more help. Also, here are a few common setups that you can check out:
# MR77MV for Lippert 1116 11,500 lbs to 14,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight
# MR39MV for Lippert 1716 11,500 lbs to 14,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight
# MR97MV for Lippert 1621 14,000 lbs to 18,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight
# MR24MV for Lippert Rhino 18,000lbs + Gross Towing Weight

Add chains # GY49GR when you convert to gooseneck, and you’ll be set for years of quiet towing.

Thanks, Andrew. Our trailer is a 2018 Cougar 338RLK with the Lippert 1116 pin box. I’m hoping this helps get rid of that jerky feeling over bridges.

@Tina That’s perfect, Tina! The # MR77MV is made exactly for that setup. You’ll definitely feel the difference; that rubber spring does a nice job soaking up the bounce when you hit expansion joints or rough roads. Once it’s on, you’ll love not having to mess with air pressure or that heavy hitch. Let me know how your first tow goes - I bet you’ll notice it right away.
