Keystone Cougar 315RLS With Lippert 1116 Pin Box - Upgrading To Gooseneck With Shock Absorption

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 10/30/2025

Question:

I tow a Keystone Cougar 315RLS with a Lippert 1116 pin box. Taking that big 5th-wheel hitch in and out of my bed is a pain. Is there an easier system?

There sure is, Darren. Your Cougar’s 1116 box can be swapped for the MORryde GooseTech # MR77MV, a gooseneck-style replacement that connects right to your 2-5/16" ball. It’s lighter, simpler, and has rubber cushioning inside to calm the ride. Once installed, you can retire that bulky hitch for good.

Don't forget to also add safety chains # GY49GR with the conversion and you’re set.

How often do you switch between towing and using the truck bed?

Appreciate it, Andrew. We use the truck for work all week, then haul the Cougar maybe once a month for trips. I’m just tired of breaking my back pulling that hitch out every time.

@Darren I don’t blame you one bit, Darren; those fifth-wheel hitches are no joke. I actually helped my brother wrestle one out of his ram truck last summer, and we both agreed it was a workout we didn’t sign up for. The GooseTech # MR77MV is going to feel like a breath of fresh air after that. Hook it up, pull the release cord when you’re done, and your bed’s wide open again for the work week. What kind of work truck setup are you running - toolbox, flatbed, or standard bed? Sometimes the bed layout can help decide where to route the release handle.
