Amber Light On Dexter Tow Assist Monitor After Installing New ABS Brakes 4,400lb Axle
Published 10/28/2025 >
Question:
I just installed new 4.4K ABS brakes and now the light turns amber when I plug into my truck. What should I check first?

Greg, that amber light means the Tow Assist system isn’t reading one of the wheel sensors. Start by checking that both brake and ABS plugs are fully seated on your # DX83WR assemblies. Also look for bent pins or dirt in the connectors. Once they’re clean and reseated, cycle the trailer power - it should switch back to green. Rarely do we see a defective sensor, but if that happens to be the case, you'll reach out to Dexter for that.
Did this happen immediately after the install, or only once you started towing? That can help narrow it down.
