Dexter Disc Brake Kit Fit for a 2008 Road Runner 1500 Triple 7K Axle Boat Trailer

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 10/13/2025

Question:

Im trying to confirm if a kit is compatible for the trailer I have. Its a 2008 road runner model 1500 boat trailer with three 7k dexter axles and has a hydrastar hba-10 actuator. Will the disc brake conversion kit K71-694-695-12 fit this? The part number on the drum is 8-219 which looks to be a 12inch x 2inch drum per the specs on Dexters website.

Hey Cody, thanks for reaching out and providing all of that great info!

The Dexter Disc Brake Kit # K71-694-695-12 will most definitely fit your setup, but we will need to upgrade your actuator to one with a 1,600-psi rating to accommodate the disc brakes. I recommend the Hydrastar # HS381-8067 because it's a marine application and vented which makes it perfect for a boat trailer.

Drum brakes don't require as much pressure as disc brakes which is why the new actuator is needed.

Was there anything else you needed to replace or upgrade while you're at it?

Hey Cody, how did the disc brake conversion go with your Road Runner trailer after upgrading to the Hydrastar actuator? Your results could really help others working on similar triple-axle setups.

@JonG Thanks for all the helpful info Jon. This actually isn’t for my trailer but I was reaching out to double check my research for a customers trailer. I think parts are on order from my shop. I will reply back with all the installation details later if that’s helpful. Also, I’m curious what your thoughts are on this conversion with a center floating axle, customer wants the disc conversion but wanted the center axle brakes removed which doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. So only running two axles with disc brakes. Do you guys also offer a dealer program or wholesale parts program for businesses? If so I’d love to forward some info to help get us set up.

@Cody I definitely share your sentiment about keeping brakes on all 3 axles. Some people are able to get away with it, but that's more for lighter trailers. For something this heavy I'd be a little nervous about lowering the braking power. We do have a dealer program, and I've passed your information along so our team can reach out to you about getting set up!
