2025 Ram 1500 - LED 3rd Brake Light Causes Rear Park Assist Sensor To Turn Off. Can It Be Fixed?

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 10/06/2025

Question:

I own a 25 Ram 1500 with towing package. It has the factory 7-pin/4-pin connector. I installed 3rd party LED turn signal/brake lights that are connected via 4-pin. The truck assumes I am towing a trailer because these are plugged in thus turning off the rear park assist sensors. Will something like the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package 9C55384 allow me to connected those auxiliary lights and have the truck NOT assume I am towing. Thanks!

Hello Christopher, thanks for reaching out. I wish I could tell you it would work, but installing the Curt # C55384 in place of the factory 7-pin/4-pin connector would not be any different. It would just T into the existing wiring. It does not have any additional provision to make the truck recognize the brake light and think you aren't towing. I am sorry to say I am not aware of a workaround. Have you asked a dealership? They might know of a way to trick the sensor. If not, you will need to decide what functionality you want more, the 3rd brake light or the park assist sensors. Some of these new trucks are too "smart" for their own good lol

Hey Christopher, were you able to check with your Ram dealership about a way to keep the park assist sensors active while using those LED lights? Knowing what they suggested could help others running into the same issue with their trucks.
