Does Lend-a-Hand Folding Grab Handle Need to be Remove to Install Replacement Grip?

Updated 09/30/2025 | Published 09/28/2025

Question:

I want to add a grip to the sloping portion of the Stromberg Carlson lend-a-hand extended hand rail on my 2025 Grand Design Reflection-100 24rl. Ive ordered the grip from Walmart. How do I get the hand rail off to add the grip? Do I have to take it off of my RV, take out the spring loaded bolt, and unscrew the bolt holding the vertical support bar? Then spray water inside the new grip and slip it on from the top rail? Im adding this grip because the top rail is slippery when it rains. I almost fell down the steps coming out of my RV. I wish the manufacturer would add this to their future models. Thank you.

Hey Emily!

Yes, you will need to remove the covers and the vertical bolts and springs in order to put on a new grip to the Lend-a-Hand Folding Grab Handle # AM-200. I recommend using some soapy water instead of just water to get the grip on the hand rail.

I'm not sure what you got from Walmart, but we do have the Dura Grip Replacement Soft Rubber Grip # AM-01 which clips around the handle so you don't have to remove anything to install it. This is 9" tall which will be exactly what you need for your setup.

Do you feel confident in taking it all apart?
