Hey Larry, thanks for the pictures! We've spoken with Lippert about this before and to replace your 5973820 motor you'll need the Lippert Components Kwikee Step Motor Replacement Kit item # LC379608. This includes a new pigtail that will plug into your control unit.
If you do decide to replace your gear box and control unit along with the motor you'll need the Motor Upgrade Kit for Kwikee Electric RV Steps item # LC379145. This actually is an upgrade on the older units made before 1999. It adds 40% more torque.
Did your motor go completely out or are you just doing some maintenance on your steps?

Thanks for the reply. My motor still works most of the time. I have had a couple times now that the motor would not retract the steps. All it took was to tap the motor with a screwdriver handle and started working. I don't remember if my unit has a plugin into the controller but if not can I cut the connector off the end of the motor harness and splice it in. I'm guessing this should work OK. Thanks Larry
