How Many Volts Does Solenoid of POp and Lock Tailgate Lock Need

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 08/30/2025

Question:

Can you tell me how many volts are needed to activate the solenoid on this part? I am trying to determine if mine went bad or if im not getting enough voltage to it. Im currently getting between 2-5 Volts from what I can tell on my meter. When I test it on the battery at 12v It does operate. Does this mean im not getting enough voltage to activate it?

Hey Trevor, the Pop & Lock Power Lock Conversion Kit for Truck Caps and Hard Tonneau Covers # PAL9772 is designed for 12 volt power systems so it does require 12 volts to activate the solenoid.

Hey Trevor, it sounds like your solenoid might not be getting enough voltage if it's only receiving 2-5 volts. Have you had a chance to check your connections or wiring to ensure they're delivering the full 12 volts needed? I'm asking because understanding your outcome could help others facing similar issues.
