Will Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit Work With Non-Dexter Axles

Updated 09/14/2025 | Published 08/29/2025

Question:

I have a 2023 Rove Lite trailer with underslung axle. Even though this is a Dexter kit, it should work on a non-Dexter axle, right? It is a straight 2-3/8inch axle, no and I am wondering if I even need this kit. Could I just flip the axle so the seat is on top rather than buy this kit? Is there an advantage to the kit other than not having to flip the axle 180 that I am missing? Thank you

Hey Dave! The Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 will work with any 2-3/8" diameter round trailer axle. Your axle may look straight but a standard axle has a slight bend in it, it might not be obvious at a glance. It is for that reason that you do not want to actually flip the axle itself over. The kit is necessary to prevent damaging the axle or other components of your trailer.

Any big trips planned with your Rove Lite this fall?

Hey Dave, did the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit work out for your Rove Lite trailer? I'm asking because it could help others in a similar situation.

@RobinH we haven't purchased the flip kit yet as we consider other options. we're leaning toward the timbren silent ride suspension instead.

@Dave that would give you a nice suspension upgrade as well. It looks like the 2-3/8" axle version was discontinued and we no longer carry it or I would link the part number for you.

@RobinH that's a shame as ur seemed our best option. the flip would get him more clearance but there are no shocks on the leaf spring setup and i worry about excessive sway after raising it. i thought incorporating sumo helpers would solve that but we haven't found a set that would be compatible.
