Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/13/2025

Question:

Hi, Im looking for a rooftop AC for my houseboat. I would like it to draw minimal power as well. Could you please recommend any units that are 15 amp? I understand they arent made for the sea but any info helps. Thank you, Andrew

Hey Ad,

Our rooftop AC units should run just as well on your houseboat as a travel trailer. Designed for heavy vibrations and humidity, along with any heavy weather. Since you are worried about power draw I highly recommend a unit that uses a start capacitor. That is going to reduce the initial power draw when starting up.

I recommend the Advent Air Low Profile System # ADV22SR in black or # ADV72SR in white. This system is a 15amp unit that includes the start capacitor that will reduce that draw initially on start up. It includes a distribution box with a built in thermostat for temperature control.

Overall I have had great experience with the Advent Units, and it is going to be right in your power usage range. Do you actually take this houseboat out or does it sit docked?

Hey Andrew, I'm glad to hear you're considering the Advent Air Low Profile System for your houseboat. Did you decide to go with one of the units I recommended, and how is it working for you? I’m asking because your experience could help others in a similar situation.
