What is Typically Changed when Converting RV to Lithium Battery Profile

Updated 09/04/2025 | Published 08/12/2025

Question:

I am looking to convert my 2012 Airstream from Deep Cell batteries to Lithium. I need to know if you can recommend all the parts I will need to do the conversion myself. I will understand if you do not provide this service. Thank you, Ron

Hey Ron, really it comes down to picking out the batteries and making sure your converter/charger has a lithium battery profile since they charge at a different voltage. The wiring and everything else would be the same. Do you know batteries you plan to go with and do you know what charger/converter you have currently?

Hey Ron, did you decide on which lithium batteries to use for your Airstream conversion? I'm asking because knowing your choice could help others considering a similar upgrade.

@JamesonC - Sorry for the delay in responding; I had camping to attend to. I decided not to convert to lithium batteries. My reasoning was the cost. I bought two $100.00 Deep Cell batteries at Walmart, and they lasted four years. There were just too many things to change at this time to warrant spending more than $200.00 at this time. One of the factors that led to the change to lithium was the weight of the deep cell batteries. I am 73 years old, and I can still easily move the batteries to the garage each year. It would be great to have less weight to move. The second factor was the converter, as our Airstream is a 2012 model and was not set up to be converted to lithium. The third factor was the need for different connectors on the cables for the lithium batteries. Anyway, thank you for the response and for asking for my feedback. I will be ordering new brakes for the trailer this year, and I will be ordering from eTrailer.com Thank you, Ron Elstun

@RonE Glad to help! Yeah I totally understand about the battery price. There's a store near me that sells car batteries for like half what I would normally pay at an auto parts store and the warranty isn't bad either so I go with them everytime. Let us know if you need help with the brakes!
