Why Does Thule ReVert Bike Rack Have Reduced Capacity at Rear of Motorhome

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/10/2025

Question:

Hi, We are considering your 4bike revert vertical rack. We have two MTB e-bikes weighing 40 and 50 lbs and two road bikes weighing 30 and 20 lbs. We would mount on our Gord transit Tiffin Midas RV with 2 inch hitch with 3500 lb rating. Our concern is having enough distance from the RV without using an extender. Also, you state that the limit per bike is 33lbs when attach to an RV. Why is that? Could this rack work for us?

Hey Susan, so the reason there's a lowered capacity for the Thule Revert bike rack part # TH73VA when used with a motorhome is because the ride quality is a lot rougher at the rear of a motorhome compared to a vehicle. This is due to the longer distance between the rear axle of the vehicle and the rear of bumper area.

This bike rack has 14 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the backside of the upright mast of the rack so you would need to measure from the center of your hitch pin out 14 inches and see if that would be out past whatever is at the rear of your vehicle.

Hey Susan, did you get a chance to measure the distance from your hitch pin to see if the bike rack would fit your RV without an extender? I'd love to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others with similar setups.
