is there a difference in the type of propane hoses that have green or black attachments to propane supply tanks?

Hey Mark,
The difference in colors on those fittings refers to the difference in BTU ratings and flow rate. The green fitting, the most common, is typically for 200,000 BTU while the black fitting is for around 70,000-100,000 btu. The green fitting is the most common fitting used on most applications.
