Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/02/2025

Question:

Trying to the right weight distribution hitch for my 2022 Honda Pilot. Trailer is a Sunlite LTD 19RK. TW 295 lbs Dry Wt. GVWR 4000 lbs. Your system sends me to P/N RE94FR that is rated for 8000 GVW lbs and 800 TW. Is there another option closer to my trailer Specs. Thanks

Hey Gary, thanks for reaching out. I can certainly point you in the right direction. The correct weight distribution (WD) hitch will depend on your loaded tongue weight. If the tongue weight is 295 dry I imagine your loaded tongue weight would be around 400-500 lbs. Tongue weight is typically 10%-15% of the total weight.

That said, each WD hitch has a range of tongue weights it will work with. For example, the Reese # RE94FR you were looking at is for trailers with a tongue weight between 400 and 800 lbs. Ideally your trailers tongue weight would fall right within the middle of this range. So the # RE94FR would be a good option as long as your tongue weight is over 400 lbs. Otherwise there will not be enough tension on the bars to provide effective weight distribution.

If you are looking for something a bit more suited for your trailer, take a look at the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BLU36FR. This is for trailers with a tongue weight between 200 and 600 lbs. It sounds like your tongue weight would fall more within the middle of this range. I really like the Blue Ox hitches in general. They are easy to assemble and set up, and they give great noticeable results. All made here in the USA too. So for those reasons the Ble Ox is definitely what I would recommend.

Hey Gary, did you decide to go with the Blue Ox hitch for your trailer? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could really help others make a decision for their setup.
