Is There An Adapter To Get The Thule DockGlide To Fit Smaller Factory Crossbars?

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/29/2025

Question:

Do you know if there are any adapters for the Thule DockGlide clamps for factory crossbars? The height of the crossbar is too thin for the clamp. Thanks!

Hi Tara!

I can't say I have had this issue with a Thule DockGlide # TH896 before, but there are some odd sizes with factory crossbars. There aren't adapters for this, unfortunately, but all is not lost!

This will be a bit of an outside the box solution, but you could use some foam rubber to wrap around the bars in between the clamps to fill the space. We don't carry this, but your local hardware store will. I would try to find something pretty stiff to keep it from moving, but it will get you back out on the water!

What kind of kayak are you carrying? I did a bit of kayaking when I was younger, but preferred my laydown style paddle board.

Hey Tara, Did you get a chance to try the foam rubber solution for your Thule DockGlide clamps? I'm curious to know if it worked out for you and your kayak. If you're still looking for a solution, I'm happy to help!
