Is Velit 2000R Mini RV AC Wiring Harness Long Enough To Reach Battery Under Hood

Updated 07/24/2025 | Published 07/20/2025

Question:

Have a GMC Savana cargo van. Would have to cut the roof to install, but am wondering how easy it would be to connect power. Is the harness long enough to reach the battery under the hood?

Hi David; the Velit 2000R Mini RV AC # VE49QV wiring harness is 15' long. However, the length isn't a major concern since you can simply extend it with additional 6 AWG wire if needed.

Are you converting this into a camper van?

Will just be in addition to vehicle a/c. Wife uses this for her florist business and needs supplemental cooling. Would it run off of the one 12v battery under the hood? Would only be in use while vehicle running.

@DavidD you will have to check and see what your alternator is capable of and make sure the electrical system is in good working order. This pulls 20-50 amps so I would expect to have to upgrade the alternator to avoid any issues. I'm not sure what comes standard in that van though. If you have the ability to do it I would turn everything on that draws power and measure what you're pulling to see what you might need on top of that to handle the AC.
