Troubleshooting RV Steps Opening And Closing On Their Own

Updated 08/04/2025 | Published 07/14/2025

Question:

RV electric steps come out for a while then go back in on their own. Then will not respond then will come out on their own. Checked ground to frame and continuity on magnetic switch which seems to work fine with closing and opening of door.

Hey Wendell,

It sounds like you could have an issue with either the control module, or the motor of those steps. I would lean more towards the control module since that is what the system runs through. It is most likely sending incorrect signals causing those to open and close on their own.

If you are able to send me the model number of your specific steps on your RV I can take a look and see if we have a replacement for you. There should be a part number on the steps themselves or the motor. Let me know and I will see what we have for you.

@WendellC Thanks for getting that for me. That is a current model that we do carry a replacement for. The replacement you will need is the Lippert # LC334850. That will be a direct fit and work well for you. Since they are still opening and closing I don't think the issue is with the motor, it works but the signal is off.
