Comparing Malone Kayak Trailers for Two 60 lb Kayaks

Updated 09/03/2025 | Published 06/26/2025

Question:

What’s the difference for MAL43FR, 93FR, 52FR, 84FR,74FR, 47FR, 32FR and MPG646162, 64616u, 4616s? And most importantly, which of these models can drive at 80 plus MPH on the interstate? I have two 11 foot kayaks 50-60lbs/each and drive an Acura MDX Type S SUV.

Hey Janeen! I think some of those part numbers got mixed up so I'm not sure what some of them are but they all seem to be the Malone kayak trailers. The Malone EcoLight Sport # MAL43FR and # MAL93FR are the same trailer but with different carrier styles. The same is true for the LowBed MicroSport # MAL52FR and # MAL32FR. The differences between the trailers is the capacity and style. None of these are able to handle 80 mph since the trailers are only rated for 65.

Since you need a trailer that can handle higher speeds I recommend the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08107. This has the capacity to handle the weight and length of your kayaks. It doesn't have an exact speed rating but can be towed at the posted speed limit as long as road conditions are favorable and it is properly loaded.

What kind of kayaks do you have?

Hey Janeen, did you have a chance to try out the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer for your kayaks? I'm curious to know how it worked for you since it might help others looking for a similar solution.

@RobinH I’m looking at several different trailers and changing out the tires that will be rated for interstate speeds. It’s a bit confusing which trailers can have the tires changed out

@JaneenP if you're looking at ours the Malone can be swapped out since they use standard hubs. The Yakima is specific to that trailer. What speed are you looking for? It is also important to keep in mind that the trailer itself may be rated for a certain speed so swapping out the tires won't allow you to go any faster.
