Should I Carry A Spare Leaf Spring For The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Suspension System?

Updated 06/26/2025 | Published 06/24/2025

Question:

In my experience, its best to carry spare parts if they become necessary. I just upgraded to the Roadmaster and new axles, hubs, bearing, etc.. I found the bearings. Looking for your opinion on whether or not to carry and extra slip leaf spring. I know that this spring doesnt have all that pressure the standard one has, but just the same, do they break? Should I have a spare? Thank you.

Hello Rene, thanks for reaching out. As far as the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit # RM-2460-2570, the leaf springs breaking is not something we see happening. I have been working here at etrailer since 2019 and I have never heard of this happening. I have heard of regular leaf springs breaking here and there, but that is almost always due to excessive wear or user error like overloading the springs, improper installation or an impact. That aside, with the comfort ride system, I would have really no concern about the springs breaking.

That being said, I definitely understand your thought process and wanting to have a spare. Even if you end up never needing it, a spare spring will undoubtedly grant you some peace of mind on long trips. Also, the springs for the comfort ride system are a bit unique so it might not be something you could find at an average trailer part shop. It would really suck to need one and not be able to find it or to have to postpone your trip and wait for one to arrive by mail. The correct replacement leaf spring for the # RM-2460-2570 is the following:

- Replacement 7,000-lb Leaf Spring for Roadmaster Comfort Ride Suspension Kits - Qty 1 # RM75EQ

What kind of camper do you have? Are there any other parts you are looking for?

Hi Jesse... Thank you for confirming this and I will be getting a spare.. Yes, I sent another question to make sure the hub spare that I bought 2 years ago is going to fit my new Axle that I bought. This is the Axle and Hub combination: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Axles/etrailer/e73SR.html This is the hub package that I bought two years ago: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hubs-and-Drums/Dexter/K08-201-98.html These are the same bearings/seals.. https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Bearings-Races-Seals-Caps/etrailer/BK3-300.html Thank you, Rene G.

@Rene Hey Rene. So yes the # K08-201-98 will fit the # e73SR axle and will work fine for a spare. It is worth noting that the hub is rated for 5,200 lbs, and the axle is a 6,000 lb. The bearings and seals have the same ID so it will fit. As a spare it is fine in a pinch but I would not want you using in as a permanent replacement. The Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K is a direct replacement for the hubs that originally came on your axle.

@JesseM Thank you for the information.. Just curious, what is it about the hub/bearings that make it a 5200 vs 6000 lb hub/bearings considering it the same size? Yes, I would only be using this to get me "home", where I can find replacement parts. I will, also, have replacement bearings, so my first trick would be to change the bearings, but for a complete blow out and if I damage the hub, the replacement hub will get me home ~100 miles or so? Thank you.

@Rene Basically the only noteworthy difference is the outer diameter if the outer bearing. The 5.2K hubs use a slightly smaller bearing it is like 2.328" versus 2.441" OD. The ID is the same. It is just a different bearing intended for 5,200 lb axles. It will be fine to use as a spare until you get home. It can be a headache when you have hubs with different bearings though so if you were to get the direct replacement hub for the spare it would make things easier going forward. For now you might want to consider carrying an extra # LM67048 bearing and # LM67010 race. Just in case you need a spare for the spare (fingers crossed you don't lol).
