Comparing Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer to Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer

Updated 06/11/2025 | Published 06/06/2025

Question:

How does the Y82QD trailer compare to the simular offroad model offered by MAlone. I see both have 750 ratings but MAlone is adverttising their traier with axil springs for offroad use. To me these trailers appear to be the same. If so I like the price on your model Y82QD a whole lot better. Is this a good trailer for a NUCANOE Unlimted and another KAYAK?

Hey Steve, it looks like you are comparing the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer with J-Carriers part # MAL93FR with the Yakima LowRider Kayak Trailer # Y82QD. The Malone actually has a 400 lb weight capacity vs. the Yakima which is rated for 750. The Malone does come with carriers whereas the Yakima actually does not contrary to what the pictures show.

It also looks like the Malone actually costs a lot less so maybe you were looking at a different Malone trailer? Your NUCANOE Unlimited weighs 84 lb so either would easily have the needed weight capacity.

That is not the MALONE trailer I was comparing the YQD too. I was asking how does it comapre to the new MALONE MICRO SPROT Off Road Two KAYAK Trailer. IT has the same 750# rating and comes with two sets of Bunk Boards for two seperate KAYAKS. Both are painted BLack and appear to be powder coated. The two trailers look identical though.

@SteveM I see what you mean. I don't know why we don't carry the Off Road Malone trailers yet but they are pretty similar to the Yakima but a little different. The crossbars of the Yakima are A LOT nicer. They are the Yakima HD aero bar whereas the Malone are basically standard square bars. Also the Malone uses a much wider tire that isn't really going to gain much performance from. I'd go with the Yakima.
