What Are The Dimensions Of The Dexter Axle DX47HR?

Updated 06/30/2025 | Published 06/06/2025

Question:

I am looking for an axle for my boat trailer. I’m looking at one on your website part number DX47HR and would like to know is the 89 inches the overall length or hub face to hub face. Also in the description on that axle it mentions a 4 1/2 inch , but the picture shows differently, which one is correct? And lastly, is this axle straight or does it have a camber to it? Thanks

Hey Kevin,

The 89" on the # DX47HR axle refers to the hub to hub length, not overall. The drop spindle on this axle is a 4.5", I see out description needs to be updated but it is going to be a 4.5" drop spindle. The axle itself does have a camber in it which you will want to center bow point upward.

What is the size of the original axle you are looking to replace?

I read the Q&A on the DX47HR axle. My question is even though it does not come with hubs, the hub face to hub face is 89 inches? How do you know what the hub face length is if it doesn’t come with hubs? Also what then is the length from the spindle back plate to spindle back plate?

@John Depending on your axle capacity, hub to hub face measurements are taken from brake flange to brake flange. For the # DX47HR since it is a 3,500lb axle, you add 6" from brae flange to brake flange measurement to accommodate what would be the hub. With that said the brake flange, or backplate to backplate would come out to 83".
