Voyager WiSight 2.0 Monitor Overheats And Shuts Off After 10 Minutes In The Sun

Question:
Hello, I have a question about they Voyager WiSight2.0 monitor. Have you ever seen a heat issue with this? It works fine for about 10 minutes, then loses signal and becomes unusable, when its placed on the front windshield. When I put it in my lap, out of the sun, it works fine. We tried a new power cable, but this didnt help. Im thinking its the monitor itself, but want to check before buying a replacement.

Hello Margie, thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear you are having this issue with your monitor. I have heard of this happening with other similar electronics where they can shut off when they overheat, but this would be the first time I have heard this complaint about one of the Voyager monitors.
The fact that it works when out of the sun is interesting. It could be the spot you have it on your dash is simply leaving it too exposed to the sun, and there is not enough airflow to keep it cool enough to function.
Is it possible to find a different spot for the monitor where it gets better airflow from like a vent or something? You could maybe try purchasing a small stick-on sunshade to put on your windshield above the monitor to keep it out of direct sun. That might be enough to allow it to work normally, although there is a possibility something is wrong with the monitor internally which is allowing it to overheat prematurely.
Just out of curiosity, what state are you in? Does it get super hot in the summer?

Hi Jessie, Thanks so much for the reply - it's good to know you haven't seen this issue with other voyager monitors. We had a different voyager system in the past, and it worked fine, and this one worked fine for 2 years before having issues. I'm thinking it is the monitor. We live in California, but it does this even in cooler (about 70 degree) temps. When I grab the monitor to take it off the windshield it is very warm to the touch. It does not get warm like that if it's out of the sun. For now we will keep it in the center console where it seems to work properly, and we'll consider trying a replacement monitor. Thanks again, Margie
